Summer! Even though London is not a seaside city, it’s still top summer destination for many travelers. Why? The city lights up with many festivals, city beaches and concerts. Are you a sports fan? Maybe you’ve heard about a little tennis tournament called Wimbledon. No matter what excites you, London is a must see destination this summer.
27.6.-10.7. The oldest, biggest and the most prestigious tournament in tennis. That can only be the holy grass tournament in Wimbledon. Will Novak Djokovic defend his title or can Federer or Murray cross his way? Tickets should still be available on this site, prices depend on selected court and seat. The easiest way to WImbledon is with District line on London underground, end stop Southfields or WImbledon. From first there is a 15min walk to tennis courts or you can take a bus No. 493. From Wimbledon station there are special shuttle buses that take you to tennis courts. Both underground stations are in zone 3 so watch out when buying tickets.
?-30.09. Cabana Brazilian Barbecue filled South Bank with 85 tones of white sand in celebration of Rio 2016 Olympic games. The place is now conveniently called Cabana’s Copacabana Beach. From yellow truck you can buy some Brazilian barbecue with caiprinha on the side. The closest tube station is Waterloo.
7.7.-17.7. Sommerset House Summer Series 2016 is the name of this summer concert series on Sommerset House backyard in the middle of London. Festival, that already hosted many famous names like Amy Winehouse, Adele and Sam Smith will present 11 new music acts with most know artist being James Morrison. Tickets for the concerts are available here. Nearest tube station is Temple Station.
8.7.-10.7. Wireless festival in his 11th year, this time for the third time in a row in Finsbury Park. Headliner is a famous DJ Calvin Harris, but there are also some other acts you can not miss like Chase & Status, J.Cole, Martin Garrix, A$AP Ferg and others. You can check out the whole line up on their website, where you can also buy (pretty expensive) tickets. There is no camping on festival so you need to arrive fast to avoid big crowds on the underground. Nearest tube station is Manor House.
15.7.-16.7. Lovebox festival is one of the summer highlights for a few years now. The line up didn’t tell us much but we believe in reputation that festival offers so much in 2 days that many others fail in three. That could also explain big ticket prices (45,00£ – 78,50£). In addition to musicians, there are also artists, dancers, magicians… Don’t forget to visit one of the many after parties. Location: Victoria Park; nearest tube station: Mile End/Bethnal Green.
15.7.-17.7. There can’t be a month without an interesting event in ExCel London.Fans of Star Wars can join in the Star Wars Celebration, ultimate celebration of George Lucas films. Three days of exhibitions, customs, interactive shows, projections and discussions will attract fans from all over the world. Get an autograph from the film stars or exchange a memorabilia with another die hard fan. Entry ticket costs 30£ and you can get it on this site. The easiest way to ExCel is with DLR train, end stop Custom House.
17.7.-23.8. One of the trendiest part of the city, Camden Town, usually isn’t the first choice when selecting a summer holiday. But they do try to come close with their own sand beach on the terrace of the famous Roundhouse Building. Camden Beach will, as the beaches on Bahamas or Maldives have white sand, beach chairs, full bar and good company. If only there was sea. The “beach” was very popular last year and early arrival is recommended to assure your own spot. Nearest tube station is Chalk Farm (Northern line).
22.7.-23.7. Before the world best athletes jet off to Rio, they will show their strengths in diamond league, part of London Anniversary Games. The place, where they competed four years ago on London Olympic games will host world best athletes including fastest man alive, Usain Bolt. Tickets can be reached from 13£ on this website. Nearest tube station is Stratford.
23.7.-4.9. Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park will once again transform into a huge beach, that was named Beach East. On 2200 square meters, decorated to celebrate Rio Olympics, you will be able to build sand castles while watching best athletes perform on big screens. There are two bars that will take care of your thirst. Little ones will be able to play in a kids pool or enjoy a ride on a Ferris wheel. Entrance: 2£adults, 1£ under 12 years, free for under 3. 30.7.-25.9. Queen Elizabeth is going on vacations which means that Buckingham palace is again opened for public. Like every year they prepared special exhibition, this year with queens clothes. Nearest tube stations are Victoria, Hyde Park Corner in Green Park.
